Road to Singapore Overview:
Road to Singapore (1940) was a Comedy - Musical Film directed by Victor Schertzinger and produced by William LeBaron and Harlan Thompson.
SYNOPSIS
The first of the "Road" movies was a surprise success for Paramount, and started a seven-film series. Though the series picked up steam as it went along, this entry introduces the family characters. Crosby's the scion of Coburn's industrial empire, but the idle playboy doesn't want any part of desk duty, so he rounds up pal Hope for a journey to the other side of the planet. In Singapore, they rescue Lamour from a dangerous whip act (starring Quinn) and make her their housekeeper. As both fall in love with her, Lamour refuses to choose.

Facts about
After Fred MacMurray and 'George Burns (I)' turned down the chance to make this film, producer Harlan Thompson offered it to Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, whom he'd seen clowning on the Paramount lot and who it seemed to him got along well.
During a lunch break, Bob Hope threw a handful of the soap suds at Dorothy Lamour and soon Bing Crosby became involved. The fight ended when Lamour cornered Hope and Crosby and threw all she had at them. The director was not particularly pleased because it would take hours to repair their hair, makeup, and clothing.
