Facts about

In the movie there is gunfire when the attack on the heavy-water plant is made, but apparently in the real life World War II Operation Gunnerside there was no shooting during the raid.
Seventeen years prior to this film, a Norwegian-French movie Kampen om tungtvannet was made which covered the same events of the World War II Telemark mission as depicted in this film. This earlier movie actually featured some of the original Norwegian commandos who played themselves.
In the ski-ing chase where the black-clad Jensen (Roy Dotrice) is pursuing Pedersen (Kirk Douglas), Dotrice's stand-in double was one of the original saboteur heroes of the WWII Telemark operation.
