About the Jackie Gleason Statue (as Ralph Kramden): Port Authority Bus Terminal, 625 8th Ave (between 40th St and 41st St) NY NY
An 8-foot tall statue of Jackie Gleason, as Ralph Kramden, stands at the Eighth Avenue entrance to New York City's Port Authority Bus Terminal. The plaque on the base of the statue reads "Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden ? Bus Driver ? Raccoon Lodge Treasurer ? Dreamer ? Presented by the People of TV Land". TV Land funded the statue in cooperation with the Jackie Gleason estate and the Port Authority. It was the first of several statues commissioned by TV Land to honor the syndicated shows that contributed to its success. Similar statues have been erected to the shows Bewitched (in Salem, MA) and Andy Griffith (in Raleigh, NC) and Mary Tyler Moore (in Minneapolis, MN).
