SYNOPSIS
Robinson balances comedy and action in a classic-era gangster movie by Ford. Robinson portrays both a timid hardware-store clerk and a ruthless gangster with subtlety and finesse. When the gang boss learns that he has an identical double, he uses the clerk's identity card to move about more openly, and insures his cooperation by kidnapping the clerk's would-be girlfriend (Arthur) and his aunt. The clerk rouses himself to action when he learns the gangster plans to eliminate him in a mistaken-identity killing at a holdup.
