SYNOPSIS
This sentimental love story begins in a small Vermont town where two youngsters - brash, lively Bennett and serious, quiet Fonda - enjoy a fledgling romance. All is ruined when Bennett falls hopelessly for the irresistibly cosmopolitan Marshal and elopes with him to Paris. Ten years later, after her husband has drunk himself to death, Bennett brings her child back to Vermont, where she discovers that Fonda, now a professor, hasn't married.
