About the Novel Uneasy Freehold:
Dorothy Macardle ( 2 February 1889 - 23 December 1958)[1] was an Irish author and historian. Her book, The Irish Republic, is one of the more frequently cited narrative accounts of the Irish War of Independence and its aftermath. She is generally[citation needed] regarded as the definitive contemporary historian from the republican anti-treaty perspective.
Her 1942 novel, Uneasy Freehold, was the basis for the 1944 film, The Uninvited. The film was directed by Lewis Allen and starred Ray Milland, Gail Russell and Ruth Hussey
