William Lowery was born on July 22, 1885 in St. Louis Missouri. Much of his early life remains a mystery, however, it is know he got his start in the movie busy in 1914 when he signed with Thanhouser Company in 1914. It is there he made his screen debut with a small part in the short film The Ten of Spades. He continued to act in short films, building his reputation as a character actor and villain. He made his feature film debut in 1917 with the film The Man from Painted Post, along side Douglas Fairbanks. In 1922 he would appear with Fairbanks again, this time in the classic Robin Hood, where he played the villainous High Sheriff of Nottingham. Lowery remained in the business for another 5 years, making his final screen appearance in the 1928 film Police Reporter. After appearing in over 65 films between 1914 and 1927, Lowery entered quiet retirement - fitting more man who only ever appeared on the silent screen. William Lowery died on November 15, 1941. He was 56 years old.
