MINI BIO:

Although many of his "roles" in films were stuntwork, this lean, grey, twinkle-eyed, droop-mustached American player deserves recognition for sheer durability. An ex-rodeo rider, he was stunting at 16, before becoming a regular stunt man for Roy Rogers and an "occasional" for other cowboy stars. "I'd go out and drive my head into the ground and get a bigger check than they would," he says. Eventually, he "just got tired of doing stunt work. The ground was gettin' kinda hard." Small parts came along ("I'd be drivin' a coach or something that needed lines") and escalated in later years to the point where he was nominated for an Oscar in Comes a Horseman and won a Canadian Oscar for The Grey Fox.
