Plump-faced, dark-haired, apprehensive-looking British comic actor who sprang to fame as a man of many funny voices on radio, then hit his stride in a hilarious series of comedies from 1957 to 1963, before his talent began to overreach itself. Recovered from a serious heart attack in 1964, but only occasionally regained his old brilliance. Married to Britt Ekland from 1963 to 1968 and Lynne Frederick (1954-1994) from 1977, second and fourth wives, and suffered several minor heart attacks before another major one killed him.
