Legendary actor, Eddie Albert, was born Edward Albert Heimberger on Apr 22, 1906 in Rock Island, IL. Albert appeared in over 200 film and TV roles. His best known films include Brother Rat (Feature Film Debut playing 'Bing' Edwards), Roman Holiday (as Gregory Peck's photographer friend Irving Radovich), The Longest Day (as Col. Thompson), and Oklahoma (as Ali Hakim, a Persian peddler). On TV, Eddie Albert most famously starred in the popular and zany sitcom Green Acres as lawyer-turned-farmer Oliver Wendell Douglas. The series ran from 1965 to 1971. He also appeared as Oliver Wendell Douglas periodically in the 'sister' TV series Petticoat Junction. (source: Annmarie Gatti). Albert died at the age of 99 on May 26, 2005 in Pacific Palisades, CA and was laid to rest in Westwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA.

Friendly and solid-built leading man turned character actor, Eddie Albert started his show business career in such diverse occupations as radio singer and trapeze artist. He became a stage actor in light comedy roles in his late twenties. His Broadway success in Brother Rat led him to repeat his role in the 1938 film. He was mainly seen as a light lead, hero's friend or comedy relief until the 1950s, but after his Oscar nomination for Roman Holiday he began to attempt a wider range of roles. Continuing to offer solid, thoughtful performances, even in 'forgettable' films, he was further nominated for an Oscar in The Heartbreak Kid. He married actress Margo (Maria Castilla) in 1945. The actor Edward Albert (born 1951) is their son.
