Edward G. Robinson Overview:

Legendary actor, Edward G. Robinson, was born Emmanuel Goldenberg on Dec 12, 1893 in Bucharest, Romania. Robinson appeared in over 110 film and TV roles. His best known films include Little Caesar, Key Largo, Double Indemnity, The Ten Commandments, Kid Galahad, Larceny, Inc., Scarlet Street, The Whole Town's Talking, A Slight Case of Murder, Brother Orchid, A Hole in the Head and The Cincinnati Kid. Robinson died at the age of 79 on Jan 26, 1973 in Hollywood, CA and was laid to rest in Beth El Cemetery in Ridgewood, Queens County, NY.

MINI BIO:

Wide-mouthed, toad-faced and totally magnetic, Edward G. Robinson made his name in gangster films, spatting out dialog like bullets from a machine-gun. Robinson also brought great power to quieter roles. His career was somewhat harmed by the Communist witch-hunts. He received a Special Academy Award in 1972. In later life, he was acknowledged as an art expert and avid collector.

He was honored with one star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Motion Pictures. Edward G. Robinson's handprints and footprints were 'set in stone' at Grauman's Chinese Theater during imprint ceremony #66 on Jul 24, 1942. In addition, Robinson was immortalized on a US postal stamp in 2000. Robinson was never nominated for an Academy Award. However he won one Honorary Award in 1972 who achieved greatness as a player, a patron of the arts and a dedicated citizen...in sum, a Renaissance man. From his friends in the industry he loves. The Academy's Board of Governors voted to confer this award on January 6, 1973. Mr. Robinson passed away on January 26th, and the award was accepted on his behalf by his wife .

Although best known for playing fierce, shady little men, Robinson was well liked by almost everyone off-screen, having been a sensitive, quiet, artistic type when not performing.
