MINI BIO:
Pretty, ever-smiling, pert and cheerful Disney singer and actress of the 1950s and early 1960s, with tinkling voice, dark hair, and dark eyes. Like Kathryn Grayson before her, she played down a formidable bustline to trade in sweetness and light, and had a second career as star of the American-International beach comedy-musicals of the mid-1960s. Began as a child on Disney's Mickey Mouse Club TV show. A comeback was announced in Grease 2 (1982), but it didn't materialize. She did appear, hardly changed and cheerfully guying her own image, in 1987's Back to the Beach, but she was stricken by multiple sclerosis in the early 1990s. She was honored with one star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Motion Pictures. On October 21, 1992, Funicello received the Disney Legends Award for living up to the Disney principals of imagination, skill, discipline, craftsmanship and magic. Funicello was never nominated for an Academy Award.
