Larry Parks Overview:

Legendary actor, Larry Parks, was born Sam Klusman Lawrence Parks on Dec 13, 1914 in Olathe, KS. Parks died at the age of 60 on Apr 13, 1975 in Studio City, CA .

MINI BIO:

Black-haired American actor with open, slightly mischievous looks who, despite a weak heart (from a severe childhood attack of rheumatic fever), maintained a hectic film schedule once signed by Columbia in 1941. His eye-catching performance in Renegades came at just the right time and he was chosen for the title role in The Jolson Story, which proved a personal triumph (and a box-office gold mine). In 1951, however, he was virtually forced out of films after testifying to the Un-American Activities Committee. Married to Betty Garrett from 1944 to his death from a heart attack. He received an Oscar nomination for The Jolson Story.

Larry Parks Facts
Godfather of Jeff Bridges.

After his film career was destroyed, he found intermittent work on stage in such plays as "The Teahouse of the August Moon," "Any Wednesday" and "The Tunnel of Love." He and his wife also worked up nightclub singing/comedy acts along with appearing in legit plays. Although Parks never quite shook off the blacklist incident, he won a role in John Huston's Freud (1962).

His movie career ended in 1951 when he was the first actor to admit that he had belonged to a Communist cell from 1941 to 1945 and was subsequently blacklisted.
