MINI BIO:
Black-haired American actor with open, slightly mischievous looks who, despite a weak heart (from a severe childhood attack of rheumatic fever), maintained a hectic film schedule once signed by Columbia in 1941. His eye-catching performance in Renegades came at just the right time and he was chosen for the title role in The Jolson Story, which proved a personal triumph (and a box-office gold mine). In 1951, however, he was virtually forced out of films after testifying to the Un-American Activities Committee. Married to Betty Garrett from 1944 to his death from a heart attack. He received an Oscar nomination for The Jolson Story. (Source: available at Amazon Quinlan's Film Stars).HONORS and AWARDS:
.Although Parks was nominated for one Oscar, he never won a competitive Academy Award.
