Light-haired, wistful-looking Irish actor, recognizably the brother of character superstar Barry Fitzgerald. Shields (the real family name) played much smaller roles than his brother after their arrival in Hollywood in the 1930s, but nonetheless etched some sharp studies. Often seen in rimless spectacles, usually dispensing wisdom to those more headstrong than himself. Died from emphysema.
