Allgood died at the age of 70 on Sep 13, 1950 in Woodland Hills, CA .

Sara Allgood's memorable sprinkling of mother roles -- most of them involved in tragedy of some kind or other -- was topped by the one in How Green Was My Valley, for which she received an Oscar nomination. She made her first film appearance in Australia, and later worked for Alfred Hitchcock, whom she considered a 'cheap, second-rate director'!,

Sara Allgood Facts
Daughter died of influenza in 1917.

After the death of her father she was raised in a Dublin orphanage. She later apprenticed as an upholsterer, which was her father's profession.

Was first enrolled her in the National Theatre Society and within a few years became one of Ireland's top theatre actresses.
