Grim-faced portrayer of upright western heroes who stood up for justice (and oppressed heroines) no matter what the odds, and of good/bad men who saw the light. The tall, sandy-haired performer came to the screen in middle-age but, like John Wayne years later, remained a star of top-class westerns into his sixties. Died after a stroke. He was honored with one star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Motion Pictures. William S. Hart's handprints and footprints were 'set in stone' at Grauman's Chinese Theater during imprint ceremony #5 on Nov 28, 1927. In addition, Hart was inducted into the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and was immortalized on a US postal stamp in 2010. Hart was never nominated for an Academy Award.
