Wendy McKim:
This is the end! Making a public spectacle of yourselves. I couldn't have believed you could have behaved like this, either of you. Just hauling like brooligans.

Catherine Wyatt:
Are you sure about Mr. Van Layden? I mean, won't you get into a lot of trouble if you're wrong?
Captain Scott: Wouldn't you like to see me drummed out of my regiment? Paraded before the troops? Medals torn off my manly bosom? I used to think that would be just your cup of tea.
Catherine Wyatt: They don't really do all that, do they?
Captain Scott: Well, of course they do! And my best friend calls on me in my quarters, hands me a loaded revolver and says, "Carruthers, its the only way out for a gentleman."

Captain Scott:
"Be thankful you're living and trust your luck, march to your front like a soldier."
Catherine Wyatt: Who said that?
Captain Scott: Man called Kipling. Another tea-drinker.

Group Capt. Baker:
Section Officer Harvey!
[yells]
Section Officer Maggie Harvey: Sir
[walks up to him and gives a salute, which he returns]
Group Capt. Baker: Section Officer Harvey, I've noticed that some of your girls are now using the men's trenches during air raid practice. It's got to stop.
Section Officer Maggie Harvey: Sir
Group Capt. Baker: And another thing... Gas mask cases
[tapping Maggie's case]
Group Capt. Baker: They're for gas masks, They're not handbags. I do realize, of course, that female requirement differ somewhat from the male. Nevertheless that's no excuse...
[stops in mid sentence as he hears German bombs exploding behind him. He and Harvey turn around and see bombers approaching]
Group Capt. Baker: God's teeth!
[at full volume]
Group Capt. Baker: Take cover!
[Baker and Harvey run into the same nearby trench]

Capt. Colin Maud:
[walking up to a stalled vehicle] My old grandmother used to say anything mechanical, give it a good bashing.
[Hits hood with his swagger stick]
Capt. Colin Maud: Try it now.
[vehicle cranks]
Private Flanagan: [to Clough] Sure, now; that did it.
[notices Maud looks at him]
Private Flanagan: Ah, now that's what I call a hell of a man!
Pvt. Clough: Aye, I like his dog too.
Capt. Colin Maud: Move inland. The war's that way.
