Funnyman David Steinberg Co-Hosts Four Favorite Movies on TCM Oct. 13

Emmy®-winning comedian/director David Steinberg, who was once described by The New York Times as "a comic institution all by himself," is coming to Turner Classic Movies (TCM) as the network's Guest Programmer for October. Steinberg will co-host a night of his favorite films with TCM's Robert Osborne on Monday, Oct. 13, beginning at 8 p.m. (ET).

Steinberg was born in Canada and became one of America's most noted comics of the 1960s and '70s. Later he distinguished himself as the director of such hit television series as Seinfeld, Friends and Curb Your Enthusiasm. More recently he has hosted the Showtime interview show Inside Comedy.

Steinberg's night as TCM's Guest Programmer will open with the Marx Brothers classic A Night at the Opera (1935), which Steinberg describes as "nonstop, front-to-back, as good a humorous movie as you'll ever see." Steinberg says he loves musicals and considers Swing Time (1936) the best of the Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers films. He calls Bringing Up Baby (1938) "a dangerous comedy" with risk-taking performances by Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. And he feels that Federico Fellini's Nights of Cabiria (1957) is "just incredible moviemaking, technically and emotionally."

8 p.m. (ET) - A Night at the Opera (1935) - Three zanies turn an operatic performance into chaos in their efforts to promote their protégé's romance with the leading lady. The Marx Bros. co-star with Allan Jones and Kitty Carlisle, under the direction of Sam Wood.

10 p.m. (ET) - Bringing Up Baby (1938) - A madcap heiress upsets the staid existence of a straitlaced scientist in this brilliant screwball comedy starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. Howard Hawks directed the antics.

Midnight (ET) - Swing Time (1936) - To prove himself worthy of his fiancée, a dancer tries to make it big, only to fall for his dancing partner. This elegant Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers musical was directed by George Stevens.

2 a.m. (ET) - Nights of Cabiria (1957) - A streetwalker dreams of a better life in Federico Fellini's delightful film starring Giulietta Masina.
