Of all the acting teams that have been loved and admired by movie audiences, none have achieved quite the same level of affection and regard as Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn.
Tracy and Hepburn made a total of nine films together, and TCM is screening five of them -- al romantic comedies with touches of seriousness, and all showcasing the couple's exquisite teamwork. In Woman of the Year (1942), their first costarring vehicle, they are competing journalists. In State of the Union (1948), Tracy is a likely candidate for US President and Hepburn is his highly principled wife. In Adam's Rib (1949), they play opposing lawyers who happen to be married. In Pat an dMike (1952), she's a professional athlete and he's the sports promoter who becomes her chief adviser and romantic interest. And in Desk Set (1957), their next-to-final film, she's a librarian and he's an efficiency expert whose computer appears to threaten her job.
