a reformed jewel thief in THE LONE WOLF SPY HUNT (1939) with Rita Hayworth and Ida Lupino, and 1940's THE LONE WOLF KEEPS A DATE (July 2); Chester Morris stars as Boston Blackie in the Christmas caper ALIAS BOSTON BLACKIE (1942) with George E. Stone, and 1941's MEET BOSTON BLACKIE (J uly 9) with Rochelle Hudson; Warner Baxter is the amnesiac criminal psychologist Robert Ordway in CRIME DOCTOR (1943), and 1945's THE CRIME DOCTOR'S COURAGE (Ju ly 16); Richard Dix stars in the film noir favorites THE WHISTLER (1944) and 1945's THE VOICE OF THE WHISTLER, directed by William Castle (July 23); Basil Rathbone is the super-sleuth Sherlock Holmes in SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SECRET WEAPON from 1942 and 1946's SHERLOCK HOLMES: DRESSED TO KILL (July 30), and more.
getTV honors Barbara Stanwyck in six of her most unforgettable films, with a two-week tribute as part of the Friday Icons block every week at 7 p.m. ET. The lineup kicks off on July 3 with Stanwyck in a trio of Frank Capra pre-Code classics featuring the 1930 romance LADIES OF LEISURE, the film that made Stanwyck a star, followed by the 1933 war drama THE BITTER TEA OF GENERAL YEN, and 1932's FORBIDDEN with Ralph Bellamy and Adolphe Menjou; the celebration continues on July 10, with Stanwyck in Capra's 1941 political romp MEET JOHN DOE with Gary Cooper, the 1932 pre-Code romance SHOPWORN with Zasu Pitts, and the 1939 boxing drama GOLDEN BOY-starring a then-unknown William Holden in the role that launched his career. The month also includes Peter Sellers in MURDER BY DEATH (July 17); Janet Leigh in BYE BYE BIRDIE with Dick Van Dyke and Ann-Margret (July 24); and Oscar® winner Yul Brynner in SURPRISE PACKAGE with Mitzi Gaynor (July 31), among others.

Thursday, July 2 at 7:00 p.m. ET - "The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt" (1939)
Would-be spies blackmail legendary detective the Lone Wolf into helping them obtain plans for an anti-aircraft gun. The 1939 crime caper also features performances from Golden Age icons Rita Hayworth and Ida Lupino, and marks Warren William's first appearance as the Lone Wolf-a career-defining role that he would reprise in eight more films.
Friday, July 3 at 7:00 p.m. ET - "Ladies of Leisure" (1930)
Frank Capra directs this pre-Code romantic drama about party girl Kay Arnold (Barbara Stanwyck) who falls in love with aspiring artist Jerry Strong (Ralph Graves), after he hires her to model for him. The blossoming romance is threatened, however, when the couple face strong opposition from Jerry's family, who know all about Kay's wild past. Stanwyck's performance received critical acclaim, and the film's success was integral in making her a star.
Friday, July 10 at 9:50 p.m. ET - "Shopworn" (1932)
Barbara Stanwyck stars as Kitty Lane, a hardworking waitress who falls in love with wealthy heir David Livingston (Regis Toomey). Disapproving of the young girl's lack of social status, David's vindictive mother Helen (Zasu Pitts) goes to extremes to keep the lovebirds apart, including having Kitty framed and sent to a prison work camp. Frank Capra directs this 1932 classic drama that is a standout of the infamous pre-Code Era. Press photo available here:
Sunday, July 12 at 7 p.m. ET - "Funny Girl" (1968)
Barbra Streisand reprises the role she made famous on Broadway, starring as Fanny Brice-a blossoming comedienne who begins a passionate, and stormy, relationship with entrepreneur and gambler Nicky Arnstein (Omar Sharif). The film holds the 16th spot on AFI's list of the Greatest Movie Musicals, and the performance earned Streisand her first Oscar® for Best Actress.
Friday, July 24 at 7 p.m. ET - "Bye Bye Birdie" (1963)
When rock star Conrad Birdie (Jesse Pearson) returns to his small town on a farewell tour before being drafted into the Army, a struggling songwriter (Dick Van Dyke) schemes to get the singer to perform his song live on the Ed Sullivan Show. Janet Leigh, Ann-Margret, Maureen Stapleton, and Paul Lynde also star. The story was inspired by Elvis Presley, who was drafted into the Army while his career as a pop star was in full swing.
