A Merry Christmas from TCM!
On the first three Fridays of December, TCM is gifting viewers with a selection of films sure to generate the holiday spirit, then on Thursday December 24th, TCM will top off their yuletide lineup with Robert Osborne's Christmas Eve Picks.
The classics will range from bright comedies (The Man Who Came to Dinner, Bundle of Joy) to touching dramas (I'll Be Seeing You, All Mine to Give) and a pair of Judy Garland musicals (Meet Me in St. Louis, In the Good Old Summertime). Three Barbara Stanwyck movies offer a blend of fun and seriousness: Remember the Night, Meet John Doe and Christmas in Connecticut.
TCM will also be showing MGM's 1938 version of A Christmas Carol, widely considered one of the best with Reginald Owen as Scrooge.
Robert Osborne's picks for Christmas Eve begin with one of the most beloved holiday films, the exquisitely cast The Bishop's Wife, in which Cary Grant stars as a guardian angel who becomes a Yuletide guest in the home of Episcopalian bishop David Niven, revitalizing his ministry and relationship with lovely wife Loretta Young. Also screening are the delightful romp Auntie Mame, in which Rosalind Russell needs a little Christmas, and the engrossing family saga Mrs. Parkington in which an elderly Greer Garson reminisces on Christmas Eve about her colorful past.
Other films being shown are Holiday Affair, The Shop Around the Corner and It Happened on 5th Avenue.
