Henry King was originally set to direct the film with Tyrone Power in the leading role, but in May 1951 King requested a transfer to another picture and Power left too.
By the time the shooting of this film was completed in Argentina, Eva Perón had died. For that reason the crew remained in the country, by a request from the government, in order to film the funeral proceedings in Technicolor.
