Cecil B. DeMille's last film for Paramount Pictures before producing and directing for his own studio.
Director Cecil B. DeMille took a unit to shoot on Washington's Mt. Ranier and was warned by a guide to be sure to be off the mountain by 3:00 p.m. DeMille ignored the warning and at 4:30 a fierce blizzard hit the mountain. The unit, consisting of 12 people, was forced to split up and try to make their way several miles down the mountain to the inn where they were staying. On the way they had to abandon $20,000 worth of camera equipment, and were forced to burn camera tripods, film boxes and tent pegs for warmth so as not to freeze to death. They made it to safety several hours later.
