Aaron Copland re-arranged music from his score for concert performance. It was published in 1964 as "Music for a Great City" and has been recorded by Copland and other conductors.

Carroll Baker was married to director Jack Garfein at the time they made this film (they divorced in 1969).

Morton Feldman was originally hired to compose the score, but was replaced by Aaron Copland.
