The 1922 Broadway play upon which this was based, "Shore Leave", was later adapted as a musical play, "Hit the Deck" (1927), with music by Vincent Youmans. That was later produced as an early sound musical film, Hit the Deck. In 1936, it was again adapted as a movie musical with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers but with different music & lyrics, this time by Irving Berlin, Follow the Fleet. In 1955, yet another remake was made, this time returning to the original Vincent Youmans 1927 Broadway musical score, Hit the Deck.
