An ending similar to Manhattan Melodrama (the film on which this movie was based) was written and filmed, but was discarded before the first press preview. It consisted of trial and execution sequences, and casting lists had actors with their character names as follows: George M. Carleton (Bailiff), Howard C. Hickman (Judge), Emmett Vogan (Jury Foreman), James Millican (Warden), Russell Hicks (High Commissioner), William Tannen (Guard), Roy Barcroft (Guard), Herbert Heyes (Guard), Patrick McVey (Guard), Leigh Sterling (Guard), Hooper Atchley (Juror), Howard M. Mitchell (Juror), Dick Rush (Juror) and Murdock MacQuarrie (Juror).

Several actors are listed in casting records with their character names but did not appear in the movie. These were Luis Alberni (Jacques), Mitchell Lewis (Sponsor) and Ivan Miller (Clerk).

The film was one of several late 1942 MGM films which were backlogged and may not have been released nationally until 1943, although many press previews and reviews appeared in October 1942.
