Director Luis García Berlanga took over 30 years to do the movie because on it he was looking the Civil War in a fun way.
On a documentary, Alfredo Landa told that director José Luis García Berlanga was such a perfectionist that he usually made the performers repeat the same shot until it was OK. So happened with the scene in which Landa has to run to the top of a hill to get the sound man: he had to repeat it 41 times.
On the 25th anniversary of the shooting of the film, the village of Sos del Rey Católico, in Aragón, Spain, offered a moving homage to Berlanga and Azcona, both deceased. Several members of the cast as well as other personalities were present and uncovered the sculptures of both writers.Pepe Sacristán confessed that he is terrified of bulls and could not do the scenes with the wild cow.
