Despite collaborating with Senkichi Taniguchi on the original script for 'Desertion at Dawn,' Akira Kurosawa's name was later omitted as co-writer at the beginning of the fourth script in January 1949. This was due to the fact that the script had to be rewritten at least seven times between September 1948 (when it was first submitted to the American CIE censors) and January 1950 when the film was eventually released. During this period Kurosawa began production on his own films and could not continue to contribute after the third script was ordered to be rewritten.
