Barbara Hale

Best remembered by the public for her starring role as girl-Friday "Della Street" in "Perry Mason" (1957).

During her time on "Perry Mason", Ms. Hale was known industry-wide for her screams. "She has the best shriek in Hollywood", Raymond Burr once said.

Graduate of Rockford (Illinois) High School, class of 1940.

Has an orchid named after her (cultivated by Raymond Burr).

Mother, with actor Bill Williams, of actor William Katt, with whom she appeared in Big Wednesday (1978) and in Perry Mason TV movies.

On the Perry Mason set she sketched constantly.

She has three children. Jody Katt (born 1947), William Katt (1951) and Juanita Katt (1953).

There is some confusion about her birth year. Early sources say 1922; some recent sources say 1921. However, her listing in the U.S. Census taken on 1 April 1930, before her birthday, gives her age as seven years.

Was one of the original 'Dr Pepper" girls featured in the soda company's calendars in the 1940s and 50s. Her photo can be see at the Dr Pepper Museum in Dublin, Texas (not to be confused with the Waco Dr Pepper Museum).

Was voted the May Queen her senior year in high school.
