ZaSu Pitts was a 'bird-like' American actress with thin upper lips and large, darting eyes. At first she played vulnerable roles, most notably in Von Stroheim's "Greed", then later took to comedy with various partners in early sound two-reelers, then played equally vulnerable and spinsterish character parts.
