Character actor, Wylie Watson, was born John Wylie Watson on Feb 6, 1889 in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Watson died at the age of 77 on May 3, 1966 in unknown, Australia .

MINI BIO:

Small, slightly built, dark-haired, mustachioed Scottish actor who played wily, henpecked or mealy-mouthed little men. A member of a family variety act, he started his career before the turn of the century, as a boy vocalist singing 15 times a day in a waxworks. He is said to have made his film debut in a 1928 Hollywood film while on a trip to America, but became a British film regular after his role as Mr. Memory in Hitchcock's 1935 version of The 39 Steps. Went to Australia in the early 1950s.

Died at age 77.

His father and mother were originally with the Carl Rosa Opera Company with whom Watson toured later with his sister. He played the 'Cello and his sister the Harp, he also had a Soprano voice. Amongst many famous variety club names that they toured with were Charles Chaplin, Wilkie Bard, Marie Lloyd and Sir Harry Lauder.

In 1948 he received a "Daily Express" film award for his outstanding performance in London Belongs To Me (1948).
