She never really seemed to be at home in films, ("Night Must Fall", 1963 and "How I Won the War", 1967), her greatest successes mostly having been on stage and in television comedy series. She was married to actors Alex Ross (1955 until his death in 1971) and John Thaw (1973 until his death in 2002).
