MINI BIO:
Muriel George was a dumpy, homely British actress, usually seen with shopping basket, heavy coat and old-fashioned hat. Once a character performer in music-hall and variety shows, her cheerfully tired, round-face worked well for a whole gallery of lower-class ladies in the British cinema, landladies, mothers, chars, cleaners and maiden aunts. She was married to fellow character player Ernest Butcher; they later divorced.
