Joyce Carey, a serious-looking dark-haired British actress, was the daughter of distinguished stage actress Dame Lilian Braithwaite. Carey made her own start in the theatre at age 18 and remained almost entirely in that medium until World II, after which she began to make occasional film appearances, usually in either shrewish or careworn roles. She remained active in the theatrical world into her eighties.
