Isabel Jewell was a petite American platinum blonde actress who never quite made it as a star after coming to Hollywood from Broadway success in 1932. She later played hard-bitten or world-weary dames before falling on hard times when acting roles dried up. She had several brushes with the law before her death from natural causes at age 64. She is best remembered as Gloria Stone (who decides to stay in Shangri-la) in the 1937 film "Lost Horizon".
