MINI BIO:

Son of actor Harry Carey, and actress Olive Carey, Harry Carey Jr. appeared in over 150 film and TV roles from 1946 through 1997.

Carey Jr. began his acting career after his discharge from the Navy after WWII. He started out with a small role in Rolling Home (1946) followed by roles in Raoul Walsh's Pursued (1947) and Howard Hawks' Red River (1948). Red River would mark the first of eleven films that Carey Jr. would make with John Wayne. In 1948, Carey Jr. appeared as The Abilene Kid in the John Ford film, 3 Godfathers, beginning his tenure as a 'regular' in John Ford's Stock Company of actors. As such, Carey Jr. appeared in many notable John Ford films including She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), Rio Grande (1950), Mister Roberts (1955), The Searchers (1956), and Cheyenne Autumn (1964).

Carey Jr. wrote a book recounting his experiences working with Ford called Company of Heroes: My Life as an Actor in the John Ford Stock Company (1994).
