George Tobias was an affable-looking American supporting actor who appeared in Warner films for most of the 1940s, mostly as the hero's loyal, but not-too-bright sidekick, but sometimes in juicier and more interesting roles. He worked in films as a freelance for a few years afterwards, but was mostly seen on television after 1958. He died from cancer.

He appeared in both Ninotchka (1939) and Silk Stockings (1957), its musical remake.

The hearse containing his body was stolen on the way to the mortuary. Involved in a fender bender, the vehicle was stolen by carjackers while information was being exchanged by the occupants of the vehicles. The car and the body were found shortly after.

He was a lifelong bachelor but for 40 years had an off-and-on relationship with actress Milicent Patrick until his death in 1980.
