MINI BIO:

American actor born in Chicago of Irish parents, he made his theatrical debut in 1930, and remained in that medium until 1947, when brought to Hollywood by director Elia Kazan for a role in Boomerang! He subsequently stayed to play grafters, judges and tough policemen until his early retirement in 1968. Died from congestive heart failure.
