MINI BIO:
Scatman Crothers was an engaging American musician and spare-time actor. A singer-drummer-musician at local speakeasies when only 14 years old, Crothers had formed his own band by the 1930s -- and has since written hundreds of tunes. He appeared in some films in the 1950s and 1060s but, after supplying the voice for Scatcat in Disney's "The Aristocats" (1970), he brought his infectious grin and husky tones to a good range of screen veteran characterizations. His name derives from the jazz word "scatting", improvising nonsense syllables to a melody.
