MINI BIO:
Dapper, dark-haired British comedian, scriptwriter, sometime director, and general contributor of comic cameos, with Mr. Punch-like facial features which made him look as if he was always about to laugh. A minor member of The Goons who gradually assumed greater familiarity and importance, he built up his early experience with a mixture of straight and comic film roles and funny voices in radio comedy. Attempts to direct comedy were less successful and he returned to the front of the camera. With photography, he had more luck, having had exhibitions of his work. In the cinema, he continued to crop up in increasingly broad comic vignettes.
