Coming soon to a device near you will be a stream of indie, cult and art house movies.
On Wednesday, Oct. 19, Turner Classic Movies will launch FilmStruck, the cable channel's first domestic subscription video-on-demand created in collaboration with the Criterion Collection, the home video distribution company that specializes in foreign, art house and classic films.
To whet film fans' appetites, the service is offering a 14-day free trial to those who sign up at filmstruck.com. A basic subscription of $6.99 offers access to hundreds of movies from The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night" (1964) to Merchant-Ivory's "A Room With a View" (1985), plus bonus materials including introductions (Bill Hader is one of the hosts), interviews and rare footage. The $10.99 monthly rate includes access to The Criterion Channel, which launches Nov. 11 and boasts Criterion's entire streaming library of films and bonus content. The latter package is also available for $99 per year.
