Actor John Wayne's birthplace museum will get some financial help and six other Iowa community arts, parks and trail projects are getting a boost from Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs grants.
The agency announced Friday $1.7 million in funding from the Iowa Great Places program.
Bondurant will use more than $220,000 for trails, parks and public art and Dubuque will develop a community and cultural center at a former church with nearly $400,000.
Forest City will develop a fine arts center while Malvern and Maquoketa are improving downtown public spaces.
The John Wayne museum in Winterset will get money for improved site development, landscaping and property restoration.
The city of Manning will expand its Trestle Park and develop the associated trail.
