About the film: From a novella by best-selling author Stephen King comes a poignant tale of the human spirit. Red (Morgan Freeman), serving a life sentence, and Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), a mild-mannered banker wrongly convicted of murder, forge an unlikely bond that will span more than twenty years. Together they discover hope as the ultimate means of survival. This 25th anniversary event includes exclusive insight from Turner Classic Movies.

I love this movie, I’ve just never have seen it on the big screen.
I think the movies remains a classic for the hope it gives the watcher. The upbeat positivity Andy has even in the darkest of situations. I also really enjoy the cleverness of his escape. He didn’t just make a run for it. He devised a really good plan to not only escape but set himself up to live after the escape. The friendship between Andy and Red is one of the warmest relationships as well. This movie creates the message that you ultimately choose your destiny and can either choose to live and succeed or choose to die and succumb to circumstances out of your control.

In a movie overflowing with sin, suffering, incarceration (or the lack of freedom), lies, deceit, and injustice, Frank Darabont creates a morally inspirational movie about friendship and hope. “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” Classic!

I haven’t seen this one yet, but I love Morgan freeman. He’s an amazing actor and embodies every character he portrays. This will be so fun to see on the big screen.

Shawshank transcends all other prison films, and gives it’s characters (and us) hope to overcome the bleakest of odds.
This is a great buddy film, with actors of different color, who become friends. We need to see these movies in these times of ”divided ness”. have not seen on big screen in long time !!

A long time ago, I had gotten a free Blu-ray copy of “Shawshank Redemption” from Warner Bros’ rewards program because they were closing up shop at the time. Some time after that, I decided to sell off my copy simply because I felt like I wasn’t watching it at the time. So not only have I yet to see “Shawshank Redemption,” but I ended up gaining and losing a copy of the film on home video all because I was young, naive, and foolish all those years ago.
Hardship, friendship, hope, redemption… such a powerful film that resonates with me as much today as it did when it was first released. And the cast is so good- real life characters that stick with you and make you believe.
This movie features a great story, wonderful characters played by great actors, and marvelous design. It’s easily my favorite Morgan Freeman movie, for sure, but I’ve never seen it on the big screen. I know I would enjoy it immensely.
I Googled the definition of “classic”, and it came back with “judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind” and “a work of art of recognized and established value.” Certainly there are many movies that fit that description, but few with the lasting popularity and impact of Shawshank Redemption. What a treat it would be to see it on the big screen!
