“My Favorite Things” because it reminds me to count my blessings. I do much the same thing when I have a bad day. Edelweiss was my grandmother’s favorite.
wonderful choices… haven’t seen your tweet yet, so please remember to tweet so that you can officially enter 🙂 thanks!
My favorite things, not only from the film, but from tv shows that it has been in, including parodies. It’s simply an enduring classic.
Climb Ev’ry Mountain
I love all the songs from The Sound of Music, but if I had to choose one, I would have to pick “I Have Confidence,” because it conveys the journey that Maria is taking so well. The slow opening reflects her trepidation about leaving the abbey and becoming a governess. Then it segues into the rousing main section, in which Maria convinces herself as much as anyone that she can handle this new situation. Then the song stops cold, as Maria is jolted back into reality when she sees the imposing von Trapp residence that will be her new home. However, she quickly recovers with one final rousing line that is emblematic of her spunky character.
Other favorites:
“The Sound of Music” — because when I hear the melody, I know the movie is about to begin!
“How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria” — because the lyrics are so funny and because the nuns sing it at her wedding.
“Edelweiss” — because the melody is so pretty.
“Something Good” — because the simplicity of its lyrics convey Maria’s surprise at falling in love (and that the Captain shares her feelings) so well.
“The Lonely Goatherd” — because yodeling.
Edelweiss is my favorite because when Christopher Plummer first sang it, it was like he was connecting with his children for the first time in such a long while.
The title song is probably my favorite. I can see and feel myself walking amongst the mountains hearing the bubbling brooks, the birds chirping, the feel of my bare feet on cool green grass. Every time I hear that song I am transported to the mountains.
“Climb Every Mountain,” is very special to me. I once was part of the cast of a community theatre production of “The Sound of Music,” and one of my best friends sang that song. She also sang at my wedding!
This is a manual entry for Ally.
“Edelweiss” is my favorite song from “The Sound of Music” because it reminds me of my Alpine heritage.
My favorite Things is just such a wonderful song and it became a Christmas standard even though it was not about Christmas!
Hi Sharon, haven’t seen your tweet yet. Please don’t forget to tweet the message so that we can officially enter you. Thanks!
I love all the songs but I especially love Do Re Mi because I went on The Sound of Music tour in Austria and basically reenacted the entire garden dance sequence! I also really love Edelweiss because it is just a lovely, beautiful song.
If you ever get to know me, you’ll know that I’m a huge Sound of Music fan and it’s difficult for me to choose one song. But my favorite song would be the title song, which is The Sound of Music. That song holds a great deal in the movie. I mean whenever I watch the film for some apparent reason I was smile when I see Julie Andrews climbing up the hill and getting ready for the iconic spin.

How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, Lonely Goatherd, Something Good, Favorite Things, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, Edelweiss, So Long Farewell…oh, my gosh…I think all of them because, whenever I need a little uplifting inspiration, I find myself watching the movie, listening to the music, singing the songs, or all three!!
Edelweiss- The elementary/middle school I went togrowing up would play Edelweiss at the end of every graduation. Still gets me tear-eyed.
My Favorite Things- So many people I’ve met across the world all know the movie, but they know this song by heart. Fun to know no matter where you come from you’re not afraid to belt out this song with random ppl.
“I Have Confidence!” Because, it is a fun, inspiring song, that I can remember watching/listening to ever since I was very young.
