Fantastic looking book. I just looked up her filmography and I had no idea how many films she actually made, they worked constantly in those days. I thought it over for awhile but I just couldn’t get away from The Wizard of OZ. There’s just so much great stuff in that film, it will always stand out from the pack. One other that I’d like to see is Judgment at Nuremberg, I didn’t even know Judy was in that. Thanks!
Ok I’ll be predictable and say The Wizard of Oz. It was one of the movies I watched all the time as a kid to the point where there were sections of the VHS that were worn out from us rewinding so often! And I even got to go to the special showing in theaters with my whole family a few years ago!
I’m torn between The Harvey Girls and Meet Me in St. Louis. I’m going to have to flip a coin. Tonight’s winner is The Harvey Girls. Tomorrow night’s winner might be Meet Me in St. Louis. Judy was such a rare talent.
This is such a difficult question. There really isn’t one film of hers that I like better than the other, but for the purposes of this entry task, I will say… The Easter Parade. This film shows just how versatile she was as an actress, singer, and dancer. She goes through an array of emotions. She’s funny and smart and absolutely stunning. There really are no words that truly describe the talent that Judy Garland has. I’ve watched her films nonstop through my childhood and continue to do so through my early adult years.
My favorite Judy Garland movie is Easter Parade. Every song is great. The story is wonderful. She and Fred Astaire had a real chemistry on screen. The costumes are beautiful. Ann Miller and Peter Lawford are great supporting characters. Most of all, I think you get glimpses of the real Judy, especially her fish face near the beginning and the joy she exudes dressed as a tramp in Walk Up the Avenue. I watch it multiple times every year, not just around Easter.
Judgement at Nuremberg. She was definitely not typecast and as a result she turned in what I think was her best dramatic performance. Plus I love courtroom stuff, so it’s a twofer.
Meet Me in St Louis has to be top of my list. She’s in between the teen and mature adult roles and makes a beautiful transition. She is so pretty in that movie.
Definitely “The Wizard of Oz”one of the most magical movies ever made and I like to think of Judy as Dorothy being forever young and happy.
Without thinking about it, the answer that came into my head was The Clock. If I sat down and thought about it, I may not have chosen The Clock. I’m a big fan of Judy as a singer, so why a film where she doesn’t sing a note? But The Clock is probably my favorite on a gut level because, having enjoyed all of her musicals, her other dramas, and many of her TV shows, radio shows, and recordings, it’s the movie that makes me feel like I’m closest to the person, Judy Garland, on film. Not that the character she plays is Judy, but rather, I feel she exposes her soul in the performance. It’s a very sweet, touching, moving, funny, believable performance in a very fine film, directed by my favorite director, Vincente Minnelli. So for these reasons and many others, I love it.
Wizard of Oz – This movie was a classic in so many ways – You had fantasy and intrigue and a terrifying villain, what more could you ask for! (Not to mention flying monkeys!)

A Star is Born is my pix. Judy showcased so many of her talents in this one…comedy, music and drama. Love all of Judy’s!!
Any girl can empathize with “there’s no place like home”. Judy Garland was surely at home in her role in the Wizard of Oz.
It’s The Harvey Girls for me! Just loved it. It was the very first Judy Garland film I ever saw. Who couldn’t love her gun totin’ pluck while slinging hash and serving steaks to those hungry cowpokes. She had some adorable scenes with John Hodiak, and with Angela Lansbury as her frontier adversary, twern’t easy! 🙂
My favorite Judy Garland movie is Summer Stock. I love the chemistry between Garland and Kelly and I absolutely love the song “If You Feel Like Singing, Sing.”
Meet Me In St. Louis is my favorite. I love the time period and the holiday setting. I watch it every year at Christmas.
