MINI BIO:
Although primarily a stage actress, and a successful one at that, Peggy Wood did appear in over 20 films and television shows. She most notably played the lead role in the popular CBS television series "Mama" which was based on the Broadway play and film "I Remember Mama" -- and the role of Mother Abbess in the film version of "The Sound of Music". Although an accomplished vocalist, she felt that she could not, at that time in her career, successfully sing "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" so her singing voice was dubbed by Margery McKay.
Wood was nominated for two primetime Best Actress Emmy Awards for her work in "Mama" (in 1953 and 1957), as well as both a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "The Sound of Music".
