MINI BIO:

American actor whose frankely homely features were seen as a variety of chisellers and sharpies until stage and film success as the hard-pressed police lieutenant in Detective Story left him equally typed as the hard-nosed but basically sympathetic sergeant or senior detective, a role he also played with great success in the TV series Naked City. Long married to lovely red-haired actress Louise Campbell (L. Weisbecker 1915-) from the Bulldog Drummond films - a true mating of Beauty and the Beast. Died from a heart ailment.
