Giant-sized British cockney comedy actor specializing in gormless types, who scored an overwhelming personal success in TV's The Army Game as a witless, kiss-curled private called Popeye. But subsequent starring roles in films were not well chosen and his career suffered a lull until he became a regular in the "Carry On" series. Died from a heart attack.
